All students and members of staff that have a CRSid and an '@cam.ac.uk' email address are automatically allocated a Pro licence to use Microsoft Office 365 (O365). This give access to the following Microsoft products:

  • Exchange (email)
  • Word
  • Excel
  • Powerpoint
  • Teams
  • OneNote

If you already have an Office 365 subscription you can use the University licence instead of, or in addition to your own.

Please note that when you leave the University and you no longer need your '@cam.ac.uk' email address, your Office 365 licence will expire. You will however, have time to transfer emails and documents to a different account if you wish.

You can sign-in to your O365 account via a browser from any device and you can also download the software so it's available on your device, even when you're not connected to a network.

Using Email

The O365 software to manage email is Outlook, or via a browser, but you can use other email clients, such as Apple Mail. You just need to add your @cam account to the client.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

The University has enabled MFA as an additional security measure. Periodically, when you sign-in to O365 you will be asked for additional authentication. This will normally be via your smartphone, either via the Authenticator app or by entering a code sent to you as a text message. We recommend using the Authenticator app (which uses wi-fi) as there are areas in the Faculty, such as the LG lecture theatres where the mobile phone signal  is poor and this may prevent you from authenticating successfully.

Getting Help

If you need assistance with using O365, setting up email or MFA then please contact the Computer Office.
